Jennifer Donnelly Artist Statement

Jim Lathrop and I first began doing ceramics by taking a course from Greg Lamont at the workspace. We liked it so much, we took a second and moved on to join CASA.

We produce wheel-thrown, hand-built, and cast ceramics. The real fun is in the glazing. Crystal-glazed ceramics are a fusion of art and science. The scientists within us are satisfied while the artists are free to explore color and form. Crystal glazes are unpredictable; crystal formation is as much a function of random chance as it is design. Color can vary between firings or even different parts of the kiln. This variation appeals to both the scientist and artist within me. Every kiln opening brings new surprises and wonder.
